Pollutant Generation in Partially Premixed Flames
Under funding from the Gas Research Institute (GRI), a collaboration of
combustion researchers at SRI and the University of California,
Berkeley, is characterizing the structure and chemical mechanisms of
the partially premixed flames found in many appliances. Laser
diagnostics and reaction models are being combined to furnish a sound
basic understanding of this ubiquitous combustion configuration.
Ultimately, this project aims to stimulate advances in energy
efficiency and pollutant reduction by providing burner manufacturers
with the tools needed to evaluate performance and improve designs.
